RHP Will Hynes
B/T: R/R Height/Weight: 6’2”/175lbs Graduate/Draft Year: 2026
Club Team: Ontario Blue Jays
Physical Maturity:
Hynes does not necessarily grab the attention from a physical aspect but his overall movement on the mound makes up for it. His 6’2” 175-pound athletic frame produces good zip and velocity on certain pitches. Hynes is still growing and his size is not alarming for his age. His frame and vertical will develop.
Initial Evaluation Synopsis
Hynes looks very comfortable on the mound, working primarily from the set-position. He works a high leg-kick delivery with a finish that needs to clean up. His arm action is clean with good separation, hiding the ball well.
Hynes releases at a ¾ slot and repeats his delivery well. He’s proven to keep hitters off balanced and uncomfortable with his offspeed and breaking options. On September 18th 2024 during his start with Team Royal at the 2024 Canadian Futures Games, he flashed a four pitch mix.
His fastball was commanded well with good run on the arm-side. The fastball touched 92 mph, consistent at approximately 90.5 mph. It stayed off the plate and worked corners well. His changeup works 84-85 mph and perfectly placed below the knees with fading action. This pitch is also well commanded.
Hynes works a sinker ranging between 90-91 mph, moving into right-handers and working off the left-side of the dish. His downside is when he misses arm side, however the misses are healthy. Hynes tends to go deep into counts which runs his pitch count beyond expectation.
He is smart when working hitters and understands his pitch-around plan. Hynes faced University of Miami commit Tim Pisasentin, where he delivered three sinkers and a changeup off the zone. He lost him with a walk but offered quality pitches.
