The Toronto Blue Jays may be on the verge of blowing up the core of this team. Various clouds of talk and thought are floating around, one being about Vladimir Guerrero Jr and the Yankees. Will this series be an opportunity for advanced scouting?
The Blue Jays are below .500 and the ground is vastly slipping away from them. Inching towards the MLB draft and All-Star talks, Toronto is not in the postseason talk as of yet. It is understood by all baseball minds that they will end up sellers. It’s all within time.
The recent talk has been about Vladimir Guerrero Jr and the New York Yankees. Guerrero Jr blatantly said that he would never play for the Yankees. Days ago he retracted the concept of that statement. He explained that it was a business and that he’d be willing to assist any team.
How does Guerrero Jr Help the New York Yankees?
The Yankees are top of the shop in the American League East despite a recent decline. New York will be gunning head-to-head with Baltimore for the division. With the recent sidelining of Anthony Rizzo, and given the struggling offense from that side of the field, why not trade for Vladdy?
Guerrero Jr would mesh into the Yankees situation, probably making it the strongest offense in all of baseball. Imagine what that would look like.

What Move do the Blue Jays make?
Now, should Toronto go ahead with this? Let’s remember how difficult it is to find a franchise player. This guy is home-grown, wants to be here, and really isn’t playing bad. Yes, the Toronto offense is terrible, however, an All-Star year-type Vladdy would not push them past .500.
If you’re gauging why an extension deal would make sense for Vladdy and you’re solely considering statistics, you’ve sold the player short. A collective stat base may put him on the “TBD” list, however, his proven metrics, projectability, and overall profile are enough to chance it another three years.
After Guerrero Jr, who do we depend on? It’s back to the drawing boards at that point. The Blue Jays should consider an extension or re-signing him in the offseason while he tests the free-agent market.
