With the New York Yankees' agonizing season approaching its final leg, the team has been getting an extremely positive take on their new rookie outfielder, Jasson Domínguez. The 20-year-old was called up by the club on September 1 ahead of the Yankees' series opener against the Houston Astros.

The Dominican-born prodigy was inked by the Yankees in July 2019 in the international signing period. He’s emerged his way through the minor league ranks and claimed the second spot on the organization's top 30-prospect list.

While only appearing in four total games so far, Domínguez has recaptured the hope of Yankees' nation. In this short stint, he has recorded three hits (two of which are home runs), three RBI and has scored a trio of runs. This is accompanied by a .231 batting average. a .231 on-base percentage and a .692 slugging percentage. Domínguez took Justin Verlander deep, oppo-taco style, followed by a monster pull-shot off of Cristian Javier.

The skinny

The 20-year-old outfielder from the Dominican Republic chucks it from the right side and swings from both boxes as a switch hitter. He’s 5’9”, 190lbs with a compact-athletic makeup, displaying strength and a quick-twitch upper-half. Domínguez sits back on a strong lower-half with a good transfer of raw power, generating bat speed that guides him right through the zone.

Domínguez’s swing brings the barrel through the zone to the ball with a launch angle that gives air on a semi-line drive. The ball flies off of his bat with a good follow-through, comparable to former Phillie Ryan Howard in his glory days. The change in physical makeup has slowed down the switch-hitting slugger. However, his ability to play his position, make tough plays, and gun out runners is still very evident. He has good reads in the outfield, allowing him to react appropriately to mitigate the act of quick-twitch bursts of pursuit.

Between AA and AAA in 2023, Domínguez worked a .265 batting average with a .377 on-base percentage and a .425 slugging percentage. Although he’s struck out a ton more (133) than he’s walked (83), he recorded 121 hits, 15 home runs, and drove in 76 runs. Not being an extremely fast runner, Domínguez was able to snag 40 bags while getting caught only nine times. He has the ability to be a three or four-hitter with approximately 30-plus homers per season.
